The Other Side Part 4: Company and Culture

Thanks for visiting our blog about our journey to adopt our son from Ethiopia!  It's been a long process and we are finally blessed to share the stories from the other side of the earth, in beautiful Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  Catch up on previous post to this series by clicking  Part 1  and  Part 2  Meeting Our Son and Part 3 Warming Up. Throughout parts 1-3 we have shared the blessings of God's timing in bringing us to Ethiopia, meeting Tarik, and the visitation times that we have shared with him so far.  This part 4 is taking you with us as we explore some of Ethiopia's beautiful country and learn more about her culture. We have shared with you before how we have friends who live in Ethiopia and by God's detail in his design for us to be adopting from Ethiopia, we were able to meet this family again.  The first time we met was when they were visiting their family, who are friends of ours, here in the U.S. The miracle of this amazes me. ...

The Other Side Part 3: Warming Up

Thanks for visiting our blog about our journey to adopt our son from Ethiopia!  It's been a long process and we are finally blessed to share the stories from the other side of the earth, in beautiful Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  Catch up on previous post to this series by clicking Part 1 and Part 2  Meeting Our Son. Saturday, August 8, 2015   Visit Day 2 We woke from a restful and much needed sleep. I woke up thinking "thank God this is really happening and not another dream!" We unpacked our bags and settled more into the room at the Guest House. 10:00 a.m. is the first visiting hours for the day so the agency driver arrived to the Guest House to drive us to the Foster Home.  The nanny brought Tarik out to us and we went to the visitation room to spend time getting to know each other.  Tarik cried at first, but did settle down while I held him.  We were sure to bring a small bag of toys including bringing back the toy car "beep beep" and the blue b...

The Other Side Part 2: Meeting Our Son

And the adventure left off here ... click here , read it and catch up!  We are sharing God's miracles as we traveled to Ethiopia to adopt our son! Just like all the You Tube Gotcha Day videos I had watched, this was our moment that the gates to the orphanage would open and we would finally meet our son!  Unlike the ever so perfect You Tube videos, in the rush, I forgot my camera back at the Guest House.  Sigh. No worries, we had met another adopting family at the airport in D.C.  They were on the same flight as we were and I recognized their adoption T-shirts from a fundraiser our agency parents had held. The couple were already at the orphanage visiting their son and they graciously offered to video and take pictures for us.  A real blessing!  Could you imagine this moment not being caught on camera? Dreams coming true, we pulled up to the gates, the gates opened and we saw for the first time, the home where our son was staying.  The courtyard ...

The Other Side

Washington D.C. USA to the capital of Ethiopia spans 7,159 miles, about an 18 hour plane ride, and a quick jump through several time zones.  Sound easy enough?  Finally getting the green light to travel to meet our son has been a long and rough road of   986 days   or we could say 2 years, 7 months, and 26 days. Yikes!  God's strength and mercies have carried us through beyond what we could bare.  Prayers of many and God's ultimate timing will be revealed.  I'd like to share with you how   God moved mountains   as miracles upon miracles lined into place during this phase in our adoption process through Ethiopia. Recap:    For those who haven't heard our story, it has been since December of 2012 that our family stepped out in faith to pursue an adoption of a child from Ethiopia.  A quick look at our blog home page and you will see the timeline of the process and the waiting we have endured.  A brief overview of ou...
